IIHHS & Professional Practice: An Integrated Model

Here in the Institute for Innovation in Health and Human Services, we believe in win-win situations.

Faculty practice is one of those situations where everybody wins: faculty, students and community members.

By facilitating faculty practice, the Institute gives JMU’s licensed health and human service faculty the opportunity and facilities to practice professionally. ( link to IIHHS clinics)

As practicing professionals, faculty members maintain skills, master new techniques or methodologies, and constantly refresh the connection between theory, practice and classroom education.

HHS students learn under the watchful eye of their professors, licensed professionals, with relevant, up-to-date, hands-on experience in clinical settings. Thanks to IIHHS, students also gain first-hand clinical experience as they learn to deliver a variety of services to clients.

Community members also benefit from this model. By integrating student learning and faculty practice, the IIHHS improves access to important health and human services for underserved and at-risk community members who may lack financial resources to seek care from private providers.
