Research is an important component of the Institute for Innovation in Health and Human Services at James Madison University.

Often occurring behind the scenes, research is the careful, systematic examination or investigation of a particular subject or field of study

  • to discover new facts
  • to enhance or revise existing thought or theory
  • to identify appropriate application of new or existing knowledge

The goal of much academic research is the creation and dissemination of new facts or knowledge.

The Institute for Innovation in Health and Human Services at James Madison University helps support and connect faculty research to a range of community health and human service needs and issues.

When appropriate, the Institute also works to encourage and facilitate student participation in research activities.

Both strategies help the Institute bring health and human service research from behind the scenes to the forefront of student education and the health and well-being of those in our communities.

In turn, faculty research deepens university expertise as faculty and students develop and implement new responses to health and human service challenges that community members face.

By supporting health and human research by JMU faculty and students, the Institute fulfills its mission and strengthens our community, our university and our graduates.
