Physical Therapy Articulation Information

Drexel University

James Madison has a “4+3” early assurance agreement with Drexel University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy Program. This early assurance articulation option allows a JMU student to obtain an admissions decision from Drexel’s DPT program in the spring of his/her junior year at JMU.

To be accepted, applicants must satisfy the following requirements for admission into Drexel’s DPT program:

  1. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25
  2. Minimum science GPA of 3.0
  3. Completion of the following pre-requisite courses with a grade of “C” or better:
    • general biology with lab (2 courses): recommend BIO 114 and BIO 214
    • mammalian or human physiology with lab (1 course)
    • an advanced course (300 or 400 level) in biology or kinesiology (one course) Such courses may include but are not limited to biomechanics, cell biology, comparative anatomy, exercise science, histology, genetics, microbiology, or research.
    • general chemistry with lab (2 courses)
    • general physics with lab (2 courses)
    • general psychology (1 course)
    • developmental or abnormal psychology (1 course)
    • introductory statistics (1 course)
    • humanities and social sciences (5 courses)
  4. No pre-requisite courses may be repeated.
  5. One page personal statement from applicant discussing the applicant’s motivation and interest in becoming a physical therapist.
  6. Minimum combined score of 1000 on the Verbal and Quantitative test of the GRE and 4.0 or higher on the Analytical test of the GRE.
  7. Documented volunteer experience in physical therapy (no prescribed number of hours)
  8. One letter of recommendation from a faculty member and one from a physical therapist.
  9. Letter of endorsement from the Pre-PT coordinator at JMU.
  10. Interview with program

Students take the GRE during the first semester of their junior year and apply to Drexel at the beginning of the second semester of their junior year. Drexel will waive the application fee for early assurance applicants.

Review of applications and the required interview with Drexel DPT faculty will also take place during the second semester of the applicant’s junior year at JMU. Following provisional acceptance from Drexel, successful applicants will then submit an “Intent to Enroll” form as well as a tuition deposit. Updated transcripts are submitted to Drexel each subsequent semester including a final transcript for verification of degree conferral.
