Physical Therapy Articulation Information
Old Dominion University
JMU has a “4 + 3” articulation agreement with Old Dominion University. Students who comply with the requirements of this program will be guaranteed a position in the DPT program upon successful completion of a baccalaureate degree at JMU.
Applicants for the guaranteed entry program must:
- Graduate from JMU with a Baccalaureate degree and a minimum of a 3.3 Grade Point Average (GPA)
- Graduate from JMU within two (2) years prior to the DPT application submission date for guaranteed entry.
- Complete all pre-requisite course work and earn at least a “B” in all science courses.
- Take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and obtain a minimum of 450 in each of the verbal and quantitative sections, and a minimum score of 3.0 on the analytical section, no later than the fall semester in the year of application.
- Submit documents (see candidacy documentation below) for review of guaranteed entry candidacy for the program by December 1 of the application year.
- Receive endorsement by the Old Dominion University Physical Therapy Admissions Committee.
Candidacy Documentation Includes:
- Completion of 80 hours of volunteer time in a physical therapy setting (40 hours of which are in an acute care/hospital physical therapy department)
- Submission of three (3) letters of recommendation (one of which is from a physical therapist)
- Submission of GRE scores
- Submission of an application essay

No more than 10 JMU students in any given year may be eligible for the guaranteed admissions to the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at ODU based upon this articulation agreement. In those years when more than 10 qualified students from JMU apply for admission to ODU, the top 10 students based upon overall GPA and prerequisite GPA will be granted a guaranteed entry position. The remaining eligible candidates are encouraged to apply to the DPT through the normal procedures.
