Pre-Dentistry
Students should know that "pre-dentistry" is only a preprofessional intention and not an academic major. Most predental students will obtain a bachelor's degree from JMU in a major of their choice. Dental admission committees are not particularly concerned with the undergraduate major, as long as applicants have completed certain basic course requirements. Dental schools have different requirements for admission and you need to become knowledgeable about individual requirements as soon as possible. You should consult Dr. Jeanne Wenos, Coordinator of Prehealth Resources for more specific information.
Remember, it is important to select a major based on your interests and aptitudes--you will do much better work and achieve better grades if you choose a major with this in mind. Besides, your academic major will also help you determine what alternatives you may have if you decide not to apply or if you are not accepted to enter dental school.
