Students must receive permission from the dean of the major college to complete all undergraduate requirements, including all requirements for the completion of the major, by successfully completing the first year of study in physical therapy at Shenandoah University with grades acceptable for transfer credit.
After successful completion of the first year of study in the Division of Physical Therapy at Shenandoah University, undergraduate students will receive a Baccalaureate Degree from James Madison University. JMU will award the degree to all qualified candidates who successfully complete all degree requirements of JMU and who successfully complete the first year of the Doctorate of Physical Therapy at Shenandoah. Shenandoah PT credits will be listed on the JMU transcripts, but the grades earned by students in physical therapy courses will not be factored into the student’s final undergraduate cumulative grade point average.
JMU will not charge tuition for the fourth year for students who enter Shenandoah University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy Program immediately following their junior year. However, JMU may charge a nominal administrative fee for keeping the student’s records. Students will also be required to apply for graduation and pay all graduation fees.
Up to a total of five (5) JMU students/graduates per year, who meet the above listed criteria, will be granted priority status for admission to the Division of Physical Therapy at Shenandoah University. As with all other applicants, priority applicants must have an on-site interview prior to admission. Priority applicants with an interview score of Acceptable or above will be guaranteed admission.
If more than 5 students qualify for priority status, the additional students will enter the regular applicant pool. JMU will be asked to rank-order all priority applicants for consideration by Shenandoah University.
